I was checking on Type I (reject a true H$_{0}$) and Type II (fail to reject a false H$_{0}$) errors during hypothesis testing and got to to know the definitions. But I was looking for where and how do these errors occur in real time scenarios. It would be great if someone came up with an example and explained the process where these errors occur.

Type I and Type II errors are inversely related: As one increases, the other decreases. The Type I, or α (alpha), error rate is usually set in advance by the researcher. The Type II error rate for a given test is harder to know because it requires estimating the distribution of the alternative hypothesis, which is usually unknown. Thinking of issues framed in terms of type 1 and type 2 errors is just one part of a larger framework that encompasses decision-making in uncertainty. Decision-making in uncertain situations can often carry a very negative connotation to physicians and surgeons.

In case of type I or type-1 error, the null hypothesis is rejected though it is true whereas type II or type-2 error, the null hypothesis is not rejected even when the alternative hypothesis is true. Both the error type-i and type-ii are also known as “false negative”. Type I error is still false positive and Type II is still false negative.
