av A Widmark · 2018 — Thermalization time scales for WIMP capture by the Sun in effective theories In the expression above, the differential cross section dσT /dEr depends on the terms of isospin: in the isoscalar case, a WIMP scatters off protons and neutrons.

Numerical values of (n,g) cross sections are available for a total of 739 targets for the elements H (Z=1, A=1) to Cm (Z=96, A=248) totaling 972 reactions. Plots of the pointwise data and comparisons with the available experimental values at thermal energy, 30 keV and 14.5 MeV can be found in the Report INDC (NDS)-362 (IAEA, Vienna 1997) available upon Neutron Capture Cross-section. The likelihood of a neutron radiative capture is represented by the radiative capture cross section as σ γ. As usual, the cross-section can be divided into three regions according to the incident neutron energy.

The absorption neutron cross section of an isotope of a chemical element is the effective cross sectional area that an atom of that isotope presents to absorption, and is a measure of the probability of neutron capture.

The neutron width of the largest resonance in Gd, at 0.032 eV in 157Gd, has been measured to be (9 6 1)% smaller than that given in ENDF/B-VI updated through release 8.

The cross section for neutron capture by nuclei in a material; it is a measure of the probability that this reaction will occur. By exposing 88Zr to the intense neutron flux of a nuclear reactor, it was determined that 88Zr has a thermal neutron capture cross section of (861,000 ± 69,000) b, which is the second-largest ever measured, despite being predicted to be only 10 b. 3.1. Derivation of the neutron capture cross section A 10B sample was used to determine the incident neutron flux on the sample.
